SENIOR PROJECT OFFICER, OAKLAND & GLOBAL

YLabs are seeking a Senior Project Officer to bring creativity and public health expertise to our team to design and scale social innovation projects to improve health and economic opportunity for disadvantaged youth. You’ll be working in a vibrant, multi-disciplinary team that combines expertise in health, economics and design. You bring curiosity, sound technical expertise in health or development and a zest for innovation and creative projects. You’ll work closely with young people and communities to design, evaluate and scale innovation for youth.  You’ll work hand-in-hand with our partners to understand community perspectives, build and test prototypes and support them to implement and scale-up successful solutions. As project lead, you will be supporting project planning, communications, partner relations, and leading our fieldwork with young people and their communities.

You are:

  • Excited about international travel and  have experience traveling or spending extended time in developing country contexts

  • Comfortable with 40-50% international travel

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment and comfortable with ambiguity

  • Interested in learning and developing new skill sets in public health and design

You have:

  • 8-10 years work experience

  • Technical expertise in sexual and reproductive health and/ or HIV

  • Worked or lived in Sub-Saharan Africa or Asia

  • Experience leading and supporting multi-disciplinary teams

  • Exceptional written communication skills (technical content and project reports)

  • Skills and experience in building and fostering partnership relations

  • Strong management and coordination skills with experience managing projects to deadlines

  • Experience managing and tracking project budgets

  • Analysis of quantitative data, design of data collection tools (qualitative or qualitative)

  • Graduate level training in public health or related discipline (including social sciences, medical anthropology, international development, economics, health management and policy, medicine etc.)

Desirable:

  • Expertise in human-centered design / design thinking

  • Second language: French, Swahili, Urdu

  • Previous experience working on health, education or employment programs

  • Experience applying research insights to create solutions to public health and development challenges

  • Prototyping/making experience

  • Basic knowledge of Keynote and/or design software

This role is based in Oakland, California and involves 40-50% international travel. All costs related to international travel and fieldwork are covered. Applicants must be legally able to work and live in the US. Please note that we cannot sponsor visa applications for this role.
