Senior Finance Manager
YLabs is seeking a Senior Finance Manager to support effective financial management and planning. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the oversight of all finance, accounting, and reporting activities. Working closely with the senior leadership team, they will lead all day-to-day finance operations and support YLabs to achieve our financial goals.
Responsibilities include accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reporting to the board of directors, and grants administration. In this role, the Senior Finance Manager will ensure that YLabs has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. They will work closely with program staff and support effective project budget management and resource planning. They will also partner with the executive and leadership teams, operations, and human resource staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and project management functions.
Finance and Accounting Leadership
Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants;
Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements in both the US and abroad;
Assist the business development team in the creation of new project budgets;
Support the negotiation and execution of sub-contracts for partners with the business development team;
Support the Executive Director in engaging the board of directors to develop and execute financial strategies;
Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines;
Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures;
Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of YLabs’ financial status;
Assist YLabs’ program teams in managing project budgets and forecasting change;
Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the Executive Director; continuously collaborate with the Executive Director to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance systems to support program operations;
Oversee payroll for staff and contractors in the US and abroad;
Ensure nonprofit tax compliance and timely completion of the IRS form 990;
Coordinate all audit activities;
Lead the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
Leverage strengths of the current finance team members and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals;
Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
Our ideal candidate has:
Minimum BA in finance, or a related degree. CPA or MBA preferred;
Seven to ten years of overall professional experience; ideally six-plus years of broad financial and operations management experience in the nonprofit sector;
Robust knowledge of Quickbooks, ideally with experience with grant management software such as Financial Edge, Intacct or similar;
A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential;
Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments;
Experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination;
Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers;
Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to YLabs’ mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker.
